UPCOMING: HIGH HOPES (a solo exhibition!)

It has been awhile since I had a show in Miami, so I am thrilled to announce HIGH HOPES.

For the last few weeks I have been painting all three exterior walls of the newly arrived Red Bull Office in Wynwood.  To officially "unveil" the massive building takeover, I am also showing new works inside the office.  I have new pill pieces and shadow works, as well as totally new series of paintings and collages.  Hosted and curated by the wonderful Kathryn Mikesell of Your Fountainhead, it should be a great night!!!

Please be sure to RSVP because space is limited!

"In the summer of 2015, Beck’s is continuing its tradition of supporting creators and innovators from around the world. For the first Beck’s Urban Canvas project, twelve visionary artists from Miami have been hand-selected to create original works throughout the Magic City, encouraging their full creative freedom. These specially commissioned murals and installations will come to life in Miami’s creatively inspired communities of Little Havana, Little Haiti, Hialeah, and Wynwood."

#BECKSURBANCANVAS Launch at Wynwood Walls

The official launch of the #BecksUrbanCanvas campaign was held last week at Wynwood Walls, Miami.  Each participating artist had some work on display, as well as some really fun activations: live screen printing from 2alas, Tee and Tote giveaway from Jose Mertz, and artist coaster set.  I contributed by creating a photobooth set that let people take their own pics and print them out when they posted them Instagram.  Here are some party photos I snagged from World Red Eye but it you check the #becksurbancanvas tag, there are about a million more on the interwebs....

thats me, swinging from the rafters in front of my newest outdoor work, at The Electric Pickle on N. Miami Ave/29th St

If you follow my instagram, you have seen the posts of me working on a new mural for a special sumer project: Becks Urban Canvas.  Becks Beer company has commissioned a group of local Artists to do a series of outdoor murals across Miami, and mine kicked off the project in Wynwood at the corner of North Miami Ave/29th street on the facade of the Electric Pickle (one of the BEST latenight spots in town, esp for good electronic music).  I am still in the middle of finishing it, but you can check it out along with all of the other works that are going up from some of my favorite Miami art buddies!  Read about it here at Miami.com, and check me out, swinging upside down in front of my new piece haha!

Early on in 2015 I was approached by local DJ Reid Waters and nightlife personality Silent Addy, who had a special concept for a monthly party Miami has never seen.  Based off the the Vibes Cartel track Miami Vice Episode, Reid and Addy wanted to create a party based in real Caribbean culture with a visual style that felt like home, but was totally unique by Miami standards.

Miami is obviously a major party city, and every party flyer looks exactly the same so we needed something special (plus, I don't really do party flyers unless I get to go ham sandwich).  I dug through tons of dub, dancehall, and reggae visuals and decided that it would be awesome to just make a giant hand-painted sign in an array of letterstyles each month, but I also wanted to combine that with the absolutely SICK dancehall dance culture: headstands, splits, crazy outfits and slanguage...I wanted to incorporate it ALL.

So, long story short (and like a million hours of painting later), our collaborative vision of music, vibes, and visuals has culminated into one of my favorite projects to date.  Every month I churn out a 4ft x 4ft wood sign that makes its way around town to promote the party.  And as for the actual party itself: banana clips.  It is the most fun, energetic, unique party in town.  The real Caribbean community comes out every month and throws it down...group dances where everyone knows every step, guest dancers from Jamaica, and some of the most insanely HOT GYALS who dress and dance the part, all come together and just destroy the dancefloor.

This is definitely one of those rare moments when all of us ended on the exact same page creatively and man its a beautiful thing.  Every month I am able add to a new series of work while just playing and exploring/evolving a new style.  I love designing outfits for the girls I draw and I love that each month gets to be something totally new.  I am not sure what we will do with all of the originals that we are accumulating, but for now its just all about the good vibes and good times.  If you are in Miami for the first Sunday of the month, come out for bbq, dancing, tunes and hold your red cup up...cause "it's like a Miami Vice Episode, Starring Everybody!"

Check out photos of the actual party on Instagram...theyre SO GOOD!!! @MVEpisode #MVEpisode

After moving to a new location and some major renovation, the brand new STK Miami has officially re-opened on South Beach.  You can read all about in this New Times article and, if you look very carefully, you can catch a mention about the works they commissioned from me.  If you're lucky enough to go in person, take a look up and check out the two diptych text paintings in the entryway...you're guaranteed a chuckle.

I recently posted a screen shot of my phone with the PRISM artwork as my wallpaper, and a bunch of people hit me up asking if they could have it too.  Well...your text/email/comment/prayers have been answered!!!  FREE WALLPAPER FOR EVERYONNNEEEE!!!!! (who has an iphone 5, 6 or 6+!!!!!!!!!)
